World Refugee Day 2025 - Standing Against Trafficking

This World Refugee Day, you can help protect vulnerable girls from the dangers of human trafficking.

Did you know that 1 in 67 people on Earth were forced to flee their home last year? This devastating displacement isn’t driven by war alone—it’s also caused by poverty, exploitation, and human rights violations. This World Refugee Day, our prayers are with the many girls and women around the world being preyed on by human traffickers.

Samaritan’s Purse is helping in Jesus’ Name, running workshops that equip girls with practical tools to avoid being trafficked.

Today, on World Refugee Day, will you join us and help protect girls like Mai* from ending up another statistic of exploitation and abuse?

Mai’s Story

“My aunt was sold to China,” shared Mai, age 14. “She is not allowed to come back… Whenever she calls, she cries.”

Mai lives in northern Vietnam and her experience is not unique. In border regions like hers, traffickers prey on young people with false promises of work, safety, or marriage. And when families have no safe options, exploitation fills the gap.

“I’m thankful for Samaritan’s Purse... and the practical information provided on how to avoid and prevent human trafficking.”

—Mai, age 14

Our workshops teach students what trafficking looks like, who is most at risk, and how to respond in a suspected case of human trafficking.

At Samaritan’s Purse, we believe that every girl is precious in the eyes of our Heavenly Father. That’s why our teams went into Mai’s area to protect and empower women and girls so that they are less vulnerable to the tactics of traffickers.

Workshops with Impact

Since 2020, Samaritan’s Purse has trained 22,000 people in anti-trafficking and safe migration in Vietnam alone. Through classes, games, and open conversations, students like Mai learn:

•         What trafficking looks like—and who is most at risk

•         The lies traffickers use to trick victims

•         How to migrate safely and legally

•         How to help survivors rebuild their lives

Our prayer is always that these women and girls will come to find refuge in God’s loving care, for, “the Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him” (Nahum 1:7).

“Anyone can be a victim of human trafficking, so it is important to share the knowledge I learned with my family and friends.”
